Happy (almost) Spring!

Hello!
Today we are in the Lab working on our MAP intervention program! As a reminder, next week is ISAT week! Please make sure that your child is getting a good night's sleep and eating breakfast! This is crucial, and it is linked to good test performance! :)

After ISAT week, Pre-Algebra will resume chapter 5, which is fractions and operations. Algebra will begin chapter 8, exponents. AT Algebra will start chapter 10, factoring (MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE!!!!).

The end of the year is quickly approaching, please make sure that your child is continuing to maintain good study habits!

Thursday!

Today, Algebra worked on a 6.3 worksheet, to help develop the skills that we learned yesterday. Pre-Algebra worked on a textbook review, page 584-585 #6-19 and page 590-591 #1-10 skip 10b. AT Algebra worked on a chapter 7 review. The chapter 7 test will be tomorrow.
In order to help the AT students remember the material from chapter 7, I have created a rap. It is as follows:
Systems of Equations and Inequalities Rap
By Mrs. Eggleston
Systems of equations
Man, this math is blazin’
So many ways to solve a system
Better listen up, I’m gonna list ‘em
Graphing, that’s the first method to apply
Put each equation in slope-intercept, then graph it, just try
Be careful, this method can be tricky
If your graph is sloppy, trying to find the solution might get sticky
Next up, solve by substitution
Simple, solve for one variable, plug it in, get your solution
Don’t forget the last method, elimination
Also known as combination
Make sure both equations are in standard form
Then, cancel out one variable, it’s simple to perform
After that, solve for one letter
Sounds fun? Wait, it gets better
Take the value for the variable plug back into the equation
Solve it for the other variable; you might get no solution on occasion
If you want to get advanced we can talk about an inequality
Graph them both, make it pretty
Find the intersection on the graph
That’s your solution, no further math
Hope you enjoyed the lesson, don’t forget
We haven’t taken the chapter test yet!

Welcome back!

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a great, relaxing break! This week we are getting back into the swing of things in the classroom. On Monday, Algebra started chapter 6, Pre-Algebra started chapter 11, and AT Algebra did a review of the first half of chapter 7. Yesterday, all of the classes were in the lab for our first day of T.E.A.M. time! I think this is going to be a very successful program, especially after seeing it in action in the lab yesterday! Today, Pre-Algebra did lesson 11.2, Box and Whisker plots. Algebra did lesson 6.3, Compund Inequalities, and AT did lesson 7.6, Systems of Linear Inequalities. All of the notes for each class are attached to this post. Have a great day!

12/9/10

Algebra: Today the students worked on their final review for chapter 5. The chapter 5 test is tomorrow!!! I am reposting the "needed" skills for the test tomorrow...please make sure that your child has mastered these 8 skills!
Pre-Algebra: Today the students completed a worksheet on lesson 10.5: Surface Area of Rectangular Prisms. Also, we started our "fact building" today. Every day 3-5 students will be working on the computer on their math facts. This will take place during independent work time. I will be measuring growth throughout this endeavour.

AT Algebra: Today the class had two options. The first option was to work on the 7.3 worksheet. The second option was an extension activity where the students learned how to solve systems of equations with three variables. Several students chose this option! I am proud of their hard work on this skill that is considered an "Algebra 2" concept!!

That's all for today! Have a great evening!
